Prettie Peek Surfin' USA!

German Phrase of the Day: Jeder liebt das Surfen surft USA. = Everybody loves Surfin'...Surfin USA! Have you every SEEN such a cute penquin surfing?? I LOVE the big wave. I am a huge fan of the ocean, and have already declared to my husband that I plan on spending a week at a beach house somewhere EVERY year, because the ocean and the waves are just so calming to me. I've also promised myself that I will take Julia over the hills to visit the ocean as often as I can once we're back in California because, we need to appreciate it while we have it, right??

So, Snowflake got to make snow angels, and now he's surfing! What will this penguin do next??? I was so excited when I first saw this set, and just new it would be tons of fun to color (it is!) I love using these nice bright colors too. Perfect for a late summer day! And did you see the sentiment? Having lived almost half my life in California, I can actually say that correctly! ;-) Although in all honesty, this card reminds me more of Hawaii then California. I had some cool swirly chipboard that I saved out from packing, and finally got a chance to use it here. I covered it with Taken with Teal craft ink (I think that might be my new favorite SU! color) and then embossed it twice with Ultra Thick Embossing Powder. Doesn't it look like some swirly waves?? Rad, dude!

Other details...it's mostly self explanatory. I of course colored him with my prismacolor pencils, and for the greeting, I punched it with my word window punch, then added 2 more punched pieces behind to give it more color. I attached them all together with a black brad.

Don't forget to get your Cutie Pie entries to Christie today!! PJ Party is tomorrow night starting at 8pm Eastern time in the Paper Pretties Forum. And...if you want to get Howdy Cowgirl in August instead of waiting until September, be sure to join the Stamp of the Month Club TODAY...and tell Christie I sent ya! Ever wonder where all these cards I make for launches and other Prettie events go? I send them to members of the Paper Pretties RAK group, or to new members of the Stamp of the Month club. So...go join and you might just get THIS card!! :-)

Prettie Wednesday with a Prettie Peek!

German Phrase of the Day: Wir bald gehen auf eine Reise. = We are going on a trip soon. I very big, long trip! I can't believe we have less than 10 days left in Deutschland! I still have too much to do!

Here is the first of my Prettie Peeks, and it also happens to be the card I created my sketch from for the Sketch Challenge I issued to the other Prettie Girls 2 weeks ago (did you play too? Please link up your creations here, I'd LOVE to see them!!) I absolutely fell in love with this little turtle. You know...Christie previewed him without anyone noticing a couple months ago in response to my challenge to make a baby card using Prettie stamps. Of course, none of us even asked where the little cutie came from! He's SOO fun to color with my prismas, and has just the cutest little turtle face ever! Wait until you see the OTHER card I made with him...you'll have to wait until next week for that.

I have my turtles all lined up in a row (unlike my ducks which are still scattered all over the place!) and peeking out of the circles I punched in the Take with Teal cardstock. Don't they look like they are all waiting at the starting line to take off? I then popped that layer up on top of my certainly celery layer. For the greeting, I pulled that from ANOTHER new Paper Pretties set being launched on Friday night because I thought it worked well with these little guys. I love the layers I did here...I just happened to have those Taken With Teal circles on my desk and one got mixed up between the ovals and I thought...gee...that actually looks cool!

For my ribbon, I put the ribbon around and tied the bow separately to stick on with a glue dot. You don't think I could actually have tied it on there and had it turn out this pretty, do you??

Don't forget to send your submissions to Christie@paperpretties.net for the Cutie Pie contest...you have until 8pm CST on July 31st (that's TOMORROW!) to get them in!! I can't wait to see the beauty that will win this months releases! And, be sure to party with the Prettie Girls in your PJ's on Friday night. There will be stamping, prizes, and lots of fun chatter! I probably won't make it this time, unless my nightly trip to the bathroom happens to fall in the right time period...then I might pop in to say a quick Hi before going back to bed. But NEXT month, I'll be there for the WHOLE party!! WOOHOO!!!

Another Guest Blogger entry from Julia

Back by popular demand...here's Julia!

German Phrase of the Day: Schmetterling moergen gerne gefallene fruchte. = Butterflies like fallen fruit. They really do! I saw it on tv.

This card has been colored with crayons. See the red on the bushes near Sophia's feet? Those are flowers. Her name is Julia. I colored some flowers in the corners of the card. I picked out the ribbon and mommy tied it on for me. I'm going to give this card to mommy. Now it's done.

Stamps: Flutter By from Paper Pretties
CS: Stamper's Select White
Ink: SU! Basic Black
Acc: crayons, Mike's ribbon

Hope you all enjoy this card from Julia. I'll be back tomorrow with the first Prettie Peek of the new sets coming out on FRIDAY night!!! Can't wait!! Have a great day everyone!

Happy Cupcake Day!

German Phrase of the Day: Gestern war ich Tennis spielen. = Yesterday I played tennis. Anyone who knows me at all knows I don't play tennis. I've never played, although I think it might be fun to learn. Who knows, maybe when I'm old I can take up tennis. ;-) Who am I kidding!!

This is a card I made a while back for Kim's (The MFT Lady) birthday. Kim is a WONDERFUL person, and I so enjoyed getting to meet her when I was in Florida this past February. I hope I'll get to see her at the next Winter CHA as well! I've already told my husband I'm going to Anaheim whether he likes it or not...baby and all! :-)

For the card I first cut the Pretty in Pink card base. It started as a 4.25" square then I trimmed up the sides a bit to form the base of the cupcake. I then took some Basic Gray paper and crimped it to make the cupcake paper. For the frosting, I freehand cut some ovals out of whisper white cardstock which I brayered with Pretty in Pink ink, then embossed with iridescent ice ep. I put dimensionals in the center of each layer, and used sticky strip around the outer edges to puff the middles out a little and give it all some more dimension. For the cherry, it also started as a whisper white circle which I brayered with Real Red and then embossed with ii ep. For the stem I used some natural hemp which I colored with my real red marker. The finishing touch was this wonderful American Crafts ribbon onto which I stamped the sentiment from MFT's Icing On the Cake stamp set with Brilliance black ink.

I hope your birthday was an awesome one Kim, can't wait to see you in January!!

Look Out World Baby card

German Phrase of the Day: Der Junge hat viele Energie! = The boy has lots of energy!

Today's card is one I made for Kristina Werner's Color Challenge LAST week. I loved the soft colors with the splash of pumpkin, and of course it being baby shoes how could I resist?? I started with a soft sky base stamped with my floral background stamp in the same color ink (had to stamp it twice because it was quite dirty the first time!!) Then I had my very vanilla scalloped piece (scalloped with the slit punch, my new scallop punch will be waiting for me when I get to California!) I then added the strip of pumpkin pie on top and added the Soft Sky double stitched ribbon.

I stamped my egg image on the Very Vanilla cs and on some Soft Sky Prints DSP to paper piece the egg. I colored my little chickie with SU! markers (pumpkin pie and so saffron) and stamped the sentiment with Certainly Celery ink. Lastly, I added a few little grass bits freehand with my celery marker.

Yes, I definitely have baby on the brain lately...but I guess that goes with the territory! For those who are interested, I've added a picture from our ultrasound today. He actually was sleeping most of the time, altho it was neat to realize he was still kicking me in his sleep because I was convinced he was awake, and we did see him swinging his foot around, but the top half never moved!

Off to School?

German Phrase of the Day: Dann geh zum Arzt. = Then go to the doctor. I will be - tomorrow that is for my 21 week "big" ultrasound! I can't wait to see how this little guy is doing. :)

And here's another card with THIS little guy Cooper! I really like his name, but not sure my husband would go for naming his son after a stamp!! I made this card for my friend Lisa's little boy starting school. She wanted a card mostly black and white (since he's all into the pirate theme lately) but a splash of color. I colored cooper brown hair since her boy (one of Julia's best friends and future husband) has brown hair. As usual, I colored him with my prismacolor pencils and used some gingham ribbon trying to to make it too girly. I think it worked out well!

Don't forget all the exciting things going on over at Paper Pretties now, there's still a sale on ribbon slides and ric rac, in addition to the Cutie Pie contest, and another release coming on August 1st! Oh yeah...and if you want to get Howdy Girlfriend (our little cowgirl Sophia) before everyone else you'd best mosie on over to the Paper Pretties site and join the Stamp of the Month Club before July ends!

Have a wonderful day everyone, and I'll be back tomorrow - possibly with a peek at MY little guy! :-)

Prettie Wednesday: Only 1 embellie!

German Phrase of the Day: Nur ein Embellishment? = Only 1 embellishment? Yup...that's what the lady said. Our own Charlie challenged us to make a card using only 1 type of embellishment. Once I saw that clarification I knew it would be a cinch. We could use ribbon, but several ribbons. Or we could use brads, and it could be several brads. Since I'm kindof a plain Jana anyway, this was pretty easy for me.

Since it was Charmaine issuing the challenge, and we all know how much she loves Ladybugs, I had to pull Wade out and dust him off. I really like Wade, I just have so many NEW Prettie stamps I forget about him. Also, seeing some recent Prettie Girl creations feature Wade in very untraditional colors ( especially loved Jackie's card here,) I thought that would be a good challenge for me. I'm also a traditional kindof girl, so this was actually quite hard for me to make a green, teal, and purple ladybug. SOOO not me. But, I LOVE these colors together, and had tons of fun creating this card. Of course I colored him with my Prismas...can't seem to get enough of those lately, and I feel like I'm FINALLY getting the hang of using them and shading with them better (I think I was overblending before!)

It's a VERY simple card, and only 4.25" square...but perfect for this challenge! And you gotta love a guy who wears a purple top hat and carries a matching purple cane, right?? This little guy is already on his way to the Prettie Mama herself, Christie.

In other Prettie news, the Cutie Pie contest is on again! YOU could win all the stamp sets being released on August 1st (and trust me...they are AWESOME!!!) simply by sending photos of your favorite Prettie Projects to christie@paperpretties.net. Not only do you get some TO DIE FOR stamp sets, you get the honor of calling yourself a Cutie Pie...what could be better than that?? Wedding Gift

German Phrase of the Day: Wie lange kannst du die Luft anhalten? = How long can you hold your breath? Julia likes to count how long she can hold her breath when swimming with her daddy. It does seem to get longer...altho it's funny to see her counting on her fingers while her face is underwater.

Today I have the gift that went with yesterday's card (the photo shows the card again too) I used one of the Plain Jane cigar boxes from PTI and the stationary set. I decorated the stationary and envelopes according to Nichole's awesome tutorial using the Porcelein Prints DSP. For the outside of the box, I used Certainly Celery cardstock around the sides, and the DSP on the top, with small strips of DSP on the corners to hide the edges. I also used some DSP to cover the tin which comes with the stationary to include the envelope seals. Overall, it only took me about 3-3.5 hours to complete the entire project, including the card. I figure that's pretty good!

Hope you all have a great day, and don't forget to come back tomorrow for Prettie Wednesday! (I remembered what day it is today...pretty good, huh?)

Wedding Card

German Phrase of the Day: Er ist nicht sehr witzig. = He is not very funny. This is what I often say of my husband...he has a strange sense of humor that not everyone can appreciate. Fortunately for him, his daughter thinks he is hilarious, so he always has someone to laugh at his ridiculous antics. Thanks everyone for your sweet comments about Julia's card...she LOVED hearing them!

Here is the wedding card I made for Julia's kindergarten teacher to match her gift (I'll show that tomorrow.) I used the same layout and sentiment from this card, just changed the colors and embellishment. I'm quite happy with how this turned out...may have to keep this layout on hand for MORE cards! :-)

Guest Blogger Julia

German Phrase of the Day: Ich habs gemacht! = I made it!

Mommy gave me this stamped image to make a card with. I put a piece of paper on the other side next to the cowboy girl after I colored her in. I stuck a piece of ribbon on her tie so it would look kinda like real cowboys. When I wrote my name on it I wrote my full name (Jana's note: her own spelling!) and when I wanted to make it I already had the image in my mind. And when I got the image in my mind after the card was made I asked mommy if she could put some ribbon on there. See the gingham ribbon on the side? Mommy tied that bow for me.

Sometimes Auntie Prettie sends me some of my own stamps, and I like that.

Thanks for looking at my card.

-Julia suzin wevr

(Note from Jana: I typed what Julia told me for this post [including the German Phrase of the Day] and she typed her own name at the end. I love how she spells Susanne, and I image her 2 grandmothers [where the name came from] will love it too! Pretty impressive for 5.5, huh???)

Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking...

German Phrase of the Day: Die Auffuehrung war sehr beeindruckend. = The performance was very impressive. I would love to go to a performance! I told my husband that for my birthday next year, I want to see the latest Cirque du Soleil performance in Vegas, The Beatles, Love. Not sure how we can work that with a baby in tow...but if there's a way I'll figure it out! ;-) Oh...and do you all like my new countdown to the move? It's actually quite helpful for me to keep track!

Earlier this week I was trying to catch up on some challenges, and decided to combine the last 2 weeks of Prettie Challenges from the challenge forum hosted by Danielle. Last week she gave us this awesome sketch to use, and the week before she challenged us to use Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, Creamy Caramel and Whisper White on a card. I think our little Howdy Gal looks great in pink, don't you agree? And don't forget the only way to get this li'l lady before September is to join the Stamp of the Month club over at Paper Pretties BEFORE July 31st!! Be sure to tell Christie I sent ya on over.

She's on Stamper's Select White and colored with my Prisma pencils, then I cut her out with my coluzzle and mounted her on a scalloped circle punched with my Marvy Giga punch. I put a regal rose dot in each bump for some added effect, and cuttlebugged the creamy caramel layer with my paisley folder. I stamped the lower circles with the Prettie stamp Sassy Circles, and punched the sentiment with my word window punch. It was lots of fun to put together!!

I know I said I'm taking weekends off until after we've moved and gotten settled in, but tomorrow I'll have a guest blogger - my daughter Julia! She created a gorgeous card with this Howdy Girlfriend set and can't wait to share it with everyone. So be sure and leave her lots of love tomorrow when she posts her card.

SFYTT with Festive Favorites

German Phrase of the Day: Warum lachst du? = Why are you laughing? Possibly because I just love this snowman stamp...I think they are hilarious all standing around chatting to each other.

This card was made for Jen's Sketch for You to Try from LAST week, but I turned it on it's side. Yeah, I know, I'm a little behind! But, it is a Christmas card, so that part is ahead! I used my soon to retire Festive Favorites set (which I LOVE and will SOOO miss!) and since I don't have my tag punches anymore, I hand cut the tags for the top. Everything was colored with SU! markers, and I even used some retired SU! DSP. The trickiest part of the whole thing was stamping just the tag outline and then filling it in with the snowflakes for the middle tag...but I think it turned out pretty well!

Ok...back to work now. But...I did manage to finish up the stationary set for Julia's teacher's wedding gift this morning...only 3.5 hours...not bad! I'll post photos of that soon. Have a great day!

Prettie Wednesday Challenge...a bit late!

Ok...I think my brain has taken a vacation and left the rest of me behind because I am really out of it this week! I forgot to post my challenge to all the Prettie Girls (and any of YOU who care to try!) on Wednesday...even though I posted my Prettie project on Tuesday. How sad am I?!? I'll just have to use the preggo excuse I guess! Sorry Pretties!!

I LOVE sketch challenges. To me, it takes the hard part out of designing a card and makes it all so easy! However, I have NEVER created a sketch for someone else to try. In fact...I never sketch out cards...I just start putting together cardstock until I like it. For this sketch, that is in fact what I did...I've already created my card for this challenge, and then I based the sketch on my card! Yeah, a little backwards, but it works for me! :-)

You'll be able to see the creations of all the Prettie Girls (including mine - because my card also includes a prettie peek of a new set that will be available on August 1st!!) in 2 more weeks (July 30th to be exact!)

Speaking of Prettie Peeks...any of you SCS subscribers notice a few peeks our own Prettie girl Jodi snuck into her Dirty Dozen creations this month??? Are you all drooling yet?? See if you can pick out the stamp that I fell so in love with earlier this week! I am busting at the seems wanting to share my latest creations!!!

Ok...I"ll post a card a little later today. Now I need to go make up a stationary set for Julia's teacher's wedding which was like 3 weeks ago now!!

Another Baby card

German Phrase of the Day: Dann geh zum Arzt. = Then go to the doctor. I feel like that's all I do nowadays...go to the doctor!

So, as you all saw I was a day ahead of myself yesterday (I guess better than being a day behind, right??) so if you came looking for my Prettie Wednesday project, scroll down a little and it'll be there.

Here is a card I made to go with the name frame from Monday. I used the same color scheme and Berry Bliss DSP along with the Full of Life set for the greeting and the retired Bundle of Joy set for the giraffe. The giraffe was stamped with Basic Black ink on watercolor paper and colored with my aquapainter and inkpads. I finished it off with some May Arts brown polka dot ribbon.

Prettie Wednesday - Trash to Treasure

German Phrase of the Day: Mit-Mach-Muehle = Made with trash. This is actually the name of a program on the children's station here in Germany, and my daughter loves it! She hates to throw ANYTHING away, and is always coming up with new things she can "craft" with the treasures she finds. No wonder our house is always a mess!!

ETA: I just NOW (about 4 hours after posting this!) realized that today is TUESDAY, not Wednesday!! Guess I got a little ahead of myself, sorry Prettie girls!!

2 weeks ago Jules challenged us all to rescue some trash and turn it into a treasure. Now I know, you're going to say what I used isn't all that original, but right now, almost EVERYTHING in our house qualifies as trash...we're in major purge mode right now! So, in going through some items in my craft room I came across these old coasters from Chili's which I never used, and was about to toss into the recycle bin. Instead, I thought I'd make something fun to send to Jules.

I wanted to make a "Sophia for all Seasons" wall hanging...and it turns out there really is a Sophia for all seasons! I used some SU! Designer Prints paper in Apricot Appeal, Real Red, Old Olive and Buckaroo Blue to cover the coasters, and stamped my Sophia's onto Stamper's Select White to color them with Prisma pencils. I used my SU! jumbo eyelets and some white taffeta ribbon to attach the coasters together. Seriously, the thing that took the longest was coloring all these adorable little girls in! I think this could be a cute wall hanging for a little girl's room...too bad I don't have that great SU! set with all the seasons...would have been perfect! I have included close-ups of each of the 4 panels if you would like to see a more detailed view of the images. I hope you like it Jules!

Name Frame for Baby Aimee

German Phrase of the Day: Ich habe Bauchweh. = I have a stomachache. Thankfully, I actually don't - unless you want to count hunger pains! I'm waiting for my water to boil for my pasta...need to eat!! Sorry about the silence over the weekend...I've decided that until we get moved, I'm going to take weekends off from Blogging to focus on packing and spending time with Julia to help her through this tough transition!

Today I have another project I made for my friend Lisa. She requested another baby name frame like the one I made her last year here. Since I already sent my chipboard letters back to the states in an earlier load, I decided to use the sticky letters and glitter this time (which is why I thought to use them for the previous ROCK card!)

For this I used a light birch frame I had here already along with some Close to Cocoa cs and Berry Bliss DSP. I attached the sticky letters, then glittered them with the Rose Pink Cosmo Glitter. For the dot on the "i" I used some GinaK flowers and bling. Finally, I attached some Purely Pomegranate satin ribbon to the back with a bow to hang the frame from...it had to have ribbon SOMEWHERE!!! :-)

Ok...finally finished up my project for this week's Prettie challenge from Jules which you'll get to see on Wednesday...and then got to do a little more stamping for the next Paper Pretties release... all I can say is I am in love!

Red White and Blue!

German Phrase of the Day: Ich weiss. = I know. This has actually been a useful phrase since often I'm clueless though, I have to change it to Ich weiss nicht! (I don't know.)

Here's a quick post, with a quick card. I really love this Howdy Girlfriend set. She's just so darn cute with her little wink and boots!! And don't forget to sign up for the Stamp of the Month club over at Paper Pretties so you can get her in August instead of having to wait until September to order her!! Just dont' forget to tell Christie I sent ya, ya hear?

I really need to make a scrapbook page with her and my niece in her purple cowgirl boots...just need to print that photo!! I made this card last weekend and was thinking about missing the 4th of July when I made her, thus the color scheme. Being in a different country on the 4th is always weird...I mean...over here they don't even KNOW it's a holiday! ;-)

Anyway, I used some denim patterened paper from Mike's along with my SU! red gingham ribbon, real red and night of navy cardstocks. She's colored with Prismacolor pencils and outlined with my lightest blue Copic (one of 5 that I own!) I kinda wish I had the SU! star punch to add some stars around her...but I like her kinda plain too.

Trying to get ahead...

German Phrase of the Day: Soll ich dir einen Witz erzaehlen? = Shall I tell you a joke? I'm actually not that great at telling jokes, and I certainly can't tell them in German!

So, I've been trying to get ahead in my stamping so I have things to show you after I have packed up my stamp room. So far...I'm doing ok...but I have more to get done so I guess I need to get stampin'! Today's project is one I made over the weekend my dh took dd to Hanover. A good friend over here often asks me to make cards or other projects for her, which I just love doing! This card was a birthday card for her dh...she wanted a Rock Star theme to it. I don't have any rock star type stamps, but I thought maybe the glittered letters on a black background would work well.

I really wanted it to say U rock, but I couldn't find a U I really liked, so I stuck with this. The glitter is from the Fine Cosmo glitter stack, and I used the sticky cuts letters for the word. I added thin strips of white cardstock to frame the word in somewhat, and some matching turquoise ribbon. It was a very fun card to make!

Have a great day, gotta go stamp now!

Prettie Wednesday Green & White

German Phrase of the Day: Wir streiten uns oft. = We argue a lot. This is very true of my daughter and I, ESPECIALLY when Daddy is away. Something about not having that buffer really seems to set us off. I thought the arguments between mother-daughter were something for the teen years, but apparently they show up at preschool age!! Maybe by the time she's a teen we'll have gotten this all out and we'll be best friends already...I can only wish!

Today's card is for the challenge issues by Christie 2 weeks ago to make a green and white card. She posted this beautiful inspiration photo. So with flowers in mind I sat at my desk and flipped through my patterned paper collection. This beauty is from my Basic Gray Lily Kate 6 by 6 collection. I thought it captured the beauty of the green and white flowers perfectly! And of course, Sophia had to have a matching dress. I colored her with my prisma pencils and some Spica glitter pens. See the little bling I added to the flower center?? I love it! I made the scalloped piece with my SU! slit punch and tied some celery grosgrain and organdy around it. The sentiment is also from the Flutter By Sophia set.

This card will be flying to Jules soon...along with my project for her challenge from last week, turning Trash to Treasure! This week's challenger is Charmaine, so be sure to go check her blog for our next Prettie Challenge!
