Prettie Peek Monday

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We had amazing weather here, and enjoyed it outside as much as possible with soccer, yard work, and the farmer's market.

I can't believe March is almost over, but that means April 1st is fast approaching, and along with it another Pretty Pajama Party!! The 3-hour party starts at 6pm CDT (that's 4pm here in California!) We will be issuing a challenge every hour so be sure to come and play along!! Besides the challenges, chatter, and all around fun, we will also be releasing Sophia Ballerina, Sweets for the Sweet in Rubber, Bunny Slippers in Rubber, and a new set!! Hope to see you there!!My peek for you today is our latest Luke stamp set...isn't he awesome? He's got a bunch of fabulous sentiments for all those men in your life. This card will be waiting for my dad when he gets here in just under 2 weeks...perhaps with a giftcard to a local golf course (shhhh mom...don't tell!!!) And don't you love his paper pieced plaid golf shirt?? I think my dad might even have a shirt like that!!! :-)

Don't forget, another release party also means, another CUTIE PIE CONTEST!!! All you have to do to enter is upload a card you have made using Paper Pretties stamps to the Cutie Pie Contest gallery over at the Paper Pretties website. Entries must be in by no later than 8pm CST on March 31st to be considered for the prize. Besides getting to call yourself a CutiePie, you will also receive all the new stamps that are released on the 1st!! Good luck!!

Prettie Wednesday bookin' it!

Sorry...that's a lame title, but it's getting late and my husband is on a plane to Dublin right now, so I'm getting a little punchy. Thankfully he's only gone for about 60 hours (crazy to fly him from California to Ireland for a 2 hour meeting I know!!) so I'll only be mostly insane by the time he gets home.2 weeks ago Christi challenged us all to make bookmarks. That is something I almost never make, but always need since I do love to read!! I wanted to use this SU! paper, and I thought the Simply Special stamp set would be perfect!

Normally when I use that set, I always complain about how hard it is to color well, never knowing how to color that watering can. For some reason, it has always stumped me. Well...today I have conquered the watering can, because I am very happy with the coloring on this one. Maybe it was just by sticking with a color and not going grey has I have in the past...but I really like it!I started with a piece of 2" by 8" piece of cardstock and scored it at 2". I then cut 2 pieces of dsp, one 1 7/8" by 5 7/8" and another 1 7/8" square. I added some Basic Gray magnetic snaps, then adhered the dsp over them (so they stay hidden!) Then, I stamped my image, cut it and it's layer with my nesties, and watercolored away. Now to go stick it in my book!!!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Birthday Blog Hop with a Hoot!

Hoot! It's a Birthday Blog Hop Prettie Girl style... with a dash of owl-y goodness tossed in for fun! The amazingly talented Frances is celebrating a birthday today and the Prettie Girls just had to throw another virtual party! The hop started at Jacque's so if you didn't start from there you might be missing out on some of the fun! :) When you reach the end of the hop make sure and leave a little love for Frances wishing her a Happy Birthday! The next stop on the blog hop is Jessie. For Frances' card, I thought about my favorite owl, Hedwig (of Harry Potter fame!) and decided to make a snowy owl. For her eyes, I used the Pretties set Sassy Circles. Her beak is one petal from the 5-petal flower punch. Hope you like her Frances...she'll be winging her way across the ocean soon!!

Happy Birthday Frances!!!

Prettie Monday

Here's another birthday card...this one a little more traditional. We went to a party for a friend who turned 6 this weekend...and since he's a he, who better to use than Cooper!

I still had some of this gorgeous dsp on my desk, and I was in a big hurry. Julia's first soccer game of the season had already started, and Jack and I were walking over...so I needed to go fast. Plus, I had put Jack down, and I only get a max of 10 minutes before he starts to cry, so I went as fast as I could! This truly is a 10 minute card!!Cooper is stamped on whisper white and colored with a combo of markers and inkpad /aquapainter. I used the new scalloped oval punch from SU!'s new Spring Occasions mini (LOVE it!!) and my beloved pacific point striped ribbon. It's a fairly simple card, but those are my favorite kind!! Oh...the greeting is from Bugs & Kisses, I just inked up the Happy Birthday portion!

Hope you have a great Monday!

Happy Birthday Jules!!!

It's a Birthday Blog Hop Prettie Girl style! The fabulous Julie is turning a year older today and to celebrate the Prettie Girls are throwing a virtual birthday party! Cake, balloons, drinks and cards galore to celebrate! :) The hop started at Jodi's so if you didn't start from there you might be missing out on some of the fun! :) When you reach the end of the hop make sure and leave a little love for Julie wishing her a Happy Birthday! The next stop on the blog hop is Jackie P.I was in charge of decorations, so instead of boring old streamers I decided to go with flowers, since I know Jules is wishing for the snow to end and her flowers to peek up through!!! I used some fun new DSP from Stampin' Up! (Pink Flamingo) and made this gorgeous flower with the Daisy's #2 bigshot die and a summer sun corduroy brad. Isn't it gorgeous?!? And of course our sweet little Sophia is there pointing at the flower, wearing a pink flowered dress from the same dsp set.
I'm not sure what my obsession with blue and gold is lately...could it be that tournament time is here again, and Cal got a 7 seed??? Go Bears!!!

Ok, sorry, had to get that out of my system. Hope your day is awesome Jules!!!

Pretty Birth Day Wednesday

Ok...so I have to admit I cheated a little for this one. 2 Weeks ago Jessica challenged us all to make a birthday card, and I needed to make a card for the family of Julia's classmate who just had twins so I made it into a Birth Day card. Close enough, right??? (and don't worry Jackie...I have a replacement card for you!!)

I wanted to use the One of Those Days stamp for this card since Mama was getting quite anxious for these two little guys to come out as she was almost 37 weeks along, and getting VERY large! And or course, this sentiment from Cooper's Look out World pairs so well with that stamp when making a baby card.
I used some new SU! designer paper (Good Morning Sunshine pack) along with my Pacific Point striped ribbon and cardstock and the 120lb weight Pure Luxury white cardstock from GinaK. The chicks were colored in with SU! markers. And of course I crossed out the I to replace it wtih we in the sentiment! I stamped a quick "Congratulations" on the inside to finish it off. It was a very quick card, but I'm happy with the results, and I hope the proud new parents like it as well.

Be sure to go check the other Prettie blogs to see their birthday cards (I'm sure NONE of them cheated like me!!!) and come back tomorrow for more treats!

Happy Prettie Monday!

Hi everyone. Man...does the week just fly by for everyone these days? Seems like I just put up my Wednesday post and already it's Sunday night!!! Phil and Julia are off skiing today, so Jack and I have had fun just the 2 of us. We decided to have a Harry Potter marathon, and he's enjoying his first look at the movies, having endured my reading the books last month during nursing sessions! He's quite a fan don't you know?!

Today's card uses the sketch from LAST week's Prettie Challenge issued by Danielle. I love her challenges, and this week she's got another Mystery Color challenge for us all, to use Regal Rose, So Saffron and a third color of our own choosing on a card. Hmmm...think I'll have to try that one! Be sure to upload your challenge cards to the Prettie's Gallery so we can ALL see them, and you can get a chance to win a $5 coupon to the Pretties Boutique!
I used some new Basic Gray Marakesh papers, and let them determine the colors. I was so happy to discover how beautifully SU!'s Pacific Point goes with this paper. And even the Baja Breeze ribbon worked well. Gorgeous, no?

I'm very in love with the new corduroy buttons also...aren't the fabulous?? But of course, nothing compares to our lovely Hola Chica!! She will be the April Stamp of the Month, so be sure to sign up before the 31st to ensure you get her before everyone else - you can make some Cinco de Mayo cards! I stamped her on Very Vanilla and colored her in with my SU! markers.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Prettie Wednesday with Kraft Chocolate Breezes

As usual I was cutting it close tonight. I created my card while dh fed Jackson his nightly bottle with meds, and Julia was getting ready for bed...finished it after bedtime routine was completed and Jackson was laying down, and now (10pm) finally getting on the computer to finish up. Of course, my card reader wouldn't work so I played around for 15 minutes, and here I am!I have to say, when Jackie challenged us to use Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze and kraft, I wasn't too excited. I really don't care for Baja Breeze that much...but it is growing on me!! So much so that I even ordered the Baja corduroy buttons (but they aren't here yet, otherwise I would have used them!)I decided little Jackson, er...Cooper! would look adorable in a t-shirt that was creamy caramel and baja breeze, along with some baja jeans. He was watercolored (on watercolor paper) and I used some new SU! specialty paper, the striped kraft. Cool, huh??

Hey, have you checked out the Paper Clip lately? Danielle will be posting the next Prettie Challenge tomorrow, and Jodi posted the Prettie Card of the Week on Sunday (if you upload your cards to the Pretties Gallery, you could be featured for our Card of the Week sometime!!)

Have a good hump day...hope to see you back soon!

Prettie Monday

Sorry for the late post this morning...I'm down in L.A. visiting a friend and didn't get a chance to write this up last night! L.A. has been fun, but I'm looking forward to being home again soon and seeing my dh - and getting some help with the kids from him again! One of the fun challenges Charmaine issued at the SIYJ party back on the first was to make a set of 3 by 3 notecards. At first, I wasn't sure how I was going to pull that off, then I saw this gorgeous paper from a retired SU pack that my friend Kallien had just given me and I thought wow...that would be fun to work with! I love Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point together, so it was perfect. For 2 of the cards I used the Beach Bum set (LOVE that turtle, and of course Cooper!) and for the third I used the One of Those Days set. I had fun paper piecing the turtle's shell and the egg shell...cute, no?
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday, and I"ll be back on Wednesday with my Prettie Challenge card. Oh...and I have tons of new SU! projects to share, once I get a chance to photograph them and write up the posts.

Prettie Quilted Wednesday

2 weeks ago Jackie challenged us all to do some quilting on our cards. I've done a few quilted cards previously, and enjoyed them...but decided to kinda cheat and just do strips for this card (you know...limited time and all.) However, I LOVE this card...the colors are just so bright and cheery, and this little chica is adorable!!!Hola Chica is the April Stamp of the Month. She won't be released for public purchase until May1st (just in time for Cinco de Mayo!) but you can get her during April when you sign up for the Stamp of the Month Club before the end of this month!

I used lots of new In Colors, Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point and Tangerine Tango. These are such wonderfully vibrant colors, I thought they would go well with this new little south of the border Sophia. And the greeting? Well, I have a wonderful friend who I always say "Hola Chica" to on the phone - and am heading down to see her tomorrow - can't wait!!!

I stole Jessie's circular clip with some ribbon idea...and added the felt flowers to liven it up, and otherwise it was just lots of piercing. Overall it was actually a pretty quick card! Be sure to check out the other Prettie Blogs to see what everyone else came up with for this challenge - I've finally updated my list over to the right so you can follow those links.

Post Party Prettie Monday

Good morning everyone! Whew...what a fun party, and I missed the first hour because I had the time wrong...sorry!! As usual I spent most of it typing 1-handed with a squirmy baby in my arms, but at least dh was able to play with our 6 yo.

As always, Charlie (Charmaine, otherwise known as Charmwarm) had some great challenges for us this time. I really thought the cartoon character challenge was lots of fun. We were to choose our favorite cartoon character, and make a card using those colors.

I chose Buzz Lightyear. I love the Toy Story movies, and Tim Allen did such a wonderful job bringing Buzz to life. Buzz is mostly white, some green, purple and a tiny bit of red and turquoise. I tried to keep a lot of white on the card, while still including the other colors. It was very fun! Cooper from the new Love You This Much was stamped with Black craft ink onto watercolor paper and colored with my aquapainter and ink pads. Down at the bottom I used some dew drops down by the 2nd half of the sentiment. If you didn't make it to the party, be sure to check out the awesome gallery of projects people made for the challenges...it was loads of fun!

Have a great Monday everyone!

A Friday Prettie Peek

I am SOOO excited. We have a new Cooper in town, and he is adorable! I mean, look at this little guy all ready to give you a great big hug! He will be released at Sunday's Stamping In Your Jammies party over at Paper Pretties, along with Bunny Hop Sophia. And...you just might get a peek at the April Sophia Stamp of the Month too! (Don't forget, to get Ballerina Sophia during the month of March, you need to sign up for the Stamp of the Month club today or tomorrow!!
I hadn't made a tall card in quite some time, so I felt it would work well with this little guy. I used some Riding Hood Red for the card base, then some new SU! DSP called Rockability. I thought the cherries worked well with the second half of the sentiment! (BTW: That is the phrase my mother uttered to my little girl last week "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck"- I just KNOW she's going to love this set!!)
I stamped Cooper on watercolor paper with basic black craft ink and let it dry for a while. Then, I colored him in with my aquapainter and ink pads (just kiwi kiss, old olive, riding hood red, blush blossom and a touch of pretty in pink for his cheeks.)

Prettie Wednesday Challenge of 1's

So, here it is...my Challenge of 1's card. 1 image, check. 1 sentiment, check. 1 layer, check. 1 embellishment, check. This one fits the bill.

As some of you may remember, this is one of my most favorite Cooper's out there, Beach Bum! (Altho I may have a new favorite soon!!) I love his chunky little belly, especially now since my little guy's belly is even BIGGER. I stamped him with basic black craft ink onto a fabrianno card...then let him dry for a while. I colored him wtih prismacolor pencils, OMS and blending stumps...but must say the craft ink didn't hold up to the OMS too well. Oh well, guess I better stick to my Palette or Memento inks for them. I also added a little "glow" around our little guy here, so it looks like he really is in the sun! I just went around it with my barely banana marker, then used my aquapainter to soften the edges of the line a little. Almost like having Copics! LOL!!

I can't wait until Friday, when I can share with you all a prettie peek of the new stamps we're releasing on Sunday. I am SOOO in love with one of our newest ones...you'll know why immediately. The best thing was my mom actually used one of the phrases when talking to her on the phone this last week...that's how perfect this set is for me...and I know you all will love it too!

In case you've forgotten...our Stamping in your Jammies night is Sunday, March 1st starting at 5pm PST (8pm EST) and will include all kinds of fun like hourly challenges, prizes, and of course, new stamps! And...you have until Saturday (2/28) at 5pm PST to submit your card for the Cutie Pie contest to win all of this month's releases. Just be sure to upload it to the Pretties Gallery to be considered, and good luck!

Prettie Wednesday reject...

So for Wednesday I have to have a 1-layer card using only 1 image stamp, one greeting stamp, and one embellishment. Overall, not too hard for me since I love simple, and 1-layer, cards (unlike a lot of the other Pretties who've all been moanin' and groanin'!! ;-) So, I set to work on this card last week deciding to make it into an anniversary card for my parents. Tomorrow is their 47th wedding anniversary. WOW! And they were together for about 5 years before getting married since they were high school sweethearts!

So, I stamped the main image from Sealed With A Kiss (recently re-released in RUBBAH!) then masked over an area and stamped some hearts to create an outer border...and that is where I messed up! 2 image stampes!! Oh no!! Well...guess I have to redo my card for Wednesday, but I can post this one today! :-) I outlines the masked area with my black pen, and then covered the unmasked area with versamark and embossed with irridescent ice ep for some sparkle. Then, I colored in Luke and Lexi (AKA Jack and Sue!) stamped my greeting, then added some ribbon. Voila! Hope you like it mom and dad...it will be in the mail soon!

On Sunday March 1st, Paper Pretties will be having their monthly Stampin In Your Jammies party!! The party starts at 4pm PST and will last until 7pm. We will be issuing a challenge every hour so be sure to come and play along!! Besides the challenges, chatter, and all around fun, we will also be releasing Bunny Hop Sopia to the public as well as a new stamp set!! Sneak peeks will start on Friday, February 27th - here and on all the Prettie blogs!! Hope to see you there!!

And, since Paper Pretties is having a release that means it is time for another CUTIE PIE CONTEST!!! All you have to do to enter is upload a card you have made using Paper Pretties stamps to the Cutie Pie Contest gallery over at the Paper Pretties website. Entries must be in by no later than 8pm CST on February 28th to be considered for the prize. Besides getting to call yourself a CutiePie, you will also receive all the new stamps that are released on the 1st!! Good luck!!

I also wanted to add on a note about my coffee with Jackie P. week before last (OMG has it been that long already??) It was so much fun to meet her in person, she is such a wonderful sweet individual! Here's a photo of Jackie holding Jack - gives you some perspective on just how huge this little guy is already!! He's for sure a big ole' Chunk - makes Jackie look even tinier than she is!! Thanks for meeting us Jackie...can't wait to see you again!

Prettie Wednesday Color Challenge

I have to admit...when I saw Jessie's color challenge to use Rose Red, Kiwi Kiss and Cameo Coral together I thought she was nuts!!! I mean, coral with rose red?? That's just crazy talk. And even when I first pulled out the cardstock I still thought she must be insane...but as I started playing more I decided it wasn't as big a stretch as I initially thought.

I decided a beach theme would be fun, especially since that's what I'm dreaming of with this nasty cold rain we've been getting. I stamped the palm tree from Soakin' Up the Sun into the Kiwi Kiss ink first, then used a marker to color the trunk chocolate chip. After stamping, I took a blender pen and pulled some color in to color the leaves and trunk, but still leave a dark outline. Next, I cut out a mask of the tree (not easy, let me tell you!!!) and made one for the horizon line and then sponged on some color. I first added the cameo coral near the horizon line, then some rose red moving upwards. For the water I used Pacific Point, then added a little Night of Navy near the top to make it darker further away. Lastly, I used Creamy Caramel for the sand after moving the mask to leave a little white foam at the edge of the waterline.

Since this card was for a Jessie challenge--the layer and embellishment QUEEN--I had to really step it up from my usual simple cards. I have 3 layers (including the patterned paper from the Bella Rose pack which I've almost finished off!!) Then I added the Groovy Guava stitched ribbon because I thought it matched the coral pretty well. The main image is popped up over the ribbon, then I added the photo corners. I stamped a greeting from the set with black ink so it would stand out on the dsp. Lastly, I added the hardware with a little Kiwi satin ribbon because it was a very Jessie thing to do! :-)

After all that, I really like this card! It's something i can be proud to send along to my fellow Prettie Girl Danielle (who's much colder than I being in Michigan and all poor thing!) Have a very Prettie Wednesday everyone, and be sure to check out all the other Prettie blogs to see their creations.

A quickie Prettie Monday

It's almost 10pm Sunday night...and Jack is NOT happy! Not sure if he's over-tired or what...but this will be a quick post! ;-)

Here's a card I made back in December...and sent one to each of the Prettie Girls as their Christmas card. I so love this Gliding By Sophia...she's one of my favorites!! I colored her with SU! markers and an aquapainter...the cheaters watercoloring method. I then added some liquid applique to her earmuffs and muff, and of course some glitter to her line in the ice. The cardstock all came from the Pretties Boutique...LOVE it!!

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday Monday! I know I'll enjoy having dh home to help out after tonight, I'm anticipating a long one.

Loving Prettie Wednesday

Guess what I"m doing this morning?? I'm FINALLY going to meet fellow Prettie Girl and San Jose resident Jackie P!!! I can't believe I've been living in San Jose for 6 months and we still haven't managed to meet up in person yet - shame on me! But today, we finally will! Guess I ought to bring my camera, huh? I suppose a Barista will be happy to take our photo! ;-)

On to this week's project. 2 weeks ago Jillian challenged us all to make a project that we love. We've changed things up a bit with our prettie challenge creations, and now some of them get sent to other prettie girls, some get sent to charities seeking cards, and others we get to keep for our own use. Since this was a week we get to keep for our own use, I decided to use this as an opportunity to get working on Julia's valentine.

I'll start off by telling you that my mom used to stay up all hours of the night before Valentine's day making valentines for myself, brother, sister and dad. She would use posterboard (like 11 by 14 or so sometimes!) and then cut things out of magazines and using construction paper and doilies etc. make these amazing Valentine's for us. They were truly works of heart...and I so wish I still had one of them today. Unfortunately, I wasn't as sentimental (or pack ratty) back then. But I do know how much I loved getting those Valentines.

Today, I have far more resources paper crafting wise than my mom had 30 or so years ago (OMG - 30! did I really say that?!?!) I started with this Colorbok (you'd think I would have figured out the keystroke for an oomlot by now but NOOooo, I'm too lazy!) heart shaped chipboard book from Mike's 1$ bins (I only bought 5 of them...wasn't I good?!) I covered it with paper from the Bella Rose collection (yup, still hooked on that paper!) sanding the edges and then sponging them with Bravo Burgundy ink. Next, I stamped flutter by Sophia onto some white cardstock and colored her in with my SU! markers. I stamped her again on the opposite side of the dsp used to cover the heart and paper pieced her dress. After coloring the flower and her jewelry with my Spica glitter pens, I cut her out and adhered her to the heart. Then, I stamped the word LOVE from an old retired SU! set, and hand wrote the rest to read "Things I LOVE about you!"

Now, on all the pages to follow I will include different things that I love about my little girl. I have managed to finish one of them, and it says "you make me smile" and includes a photo of me smiling. Now to finish the rest of the pages before Saturday...hmmm...I see a few late nights coming up myself!

Be sure to check out the amazing creations of the other Prettie Girls, and then go make something special for the people that YOU love!

Prettie Challenged Monday

Happy Monday everyone! We had a good, but busy weekend. It seems there is never quite enough time to finish everything that needs to be finished...especially when one of us is always holding Jackson.

I did get some time to finish a card on Friday however - he napped for 30 minutes in the bed! WOOHOO!!! I wanted to use this great sketch by Danielle for this week's Paper Pretties Weekly Challenge (#38) Danielle comes up with these awesome challenges every week, and for those of you who want to play along from home, you can win a $5 gift certificate to the Prettie Boutique, how awesome is that??

For this card I used my favorite new set Flirty Phrases. I added a little shading to the box with my one gray copic marker, then left it. The designer paper is from the Bella Rose set from SU!, and I used that and some basic black cardstock to make the brads on the right. I love simple cards!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful week...I'll be back on Wednesday for another Prettie Wednesday challenge (remember, Jillian challenged us all to make something we LOVE), and might even have something to post between now and then...who knows?!

Prettie Wednesday with Texture!

Here it is, Wednesday already. Boy the time goes quickly when you can't put a baby down...NOT! Ok, I'll admit it, I'm exhausted. Just trying to finish this card up and take photos was a trial. Jackson is very much a mama's boy...he does NOT want to be with Daddy in the evenings, just because that's when daddy happens to be around. Remember Dinosaurs? THIS is what poor Phil feels like (altho the episodes where the baby is hitting him with the frying pan while screaming NOT THE MAMA are probably more appropriate!

Ok...now that I got my little rant out...here's my Prettie Wednesday card. Danielle challenged us 2 weeks ago to add some texture to our card, and we couldn't use ribbon or primas. This was fun for me, since in Germany there are LOTS of different cut felt strips you can buy to decorate your table with. I purchased this strip of turquoise felt flowers for very little...and was excited to finally use it!
I used my Flutter By Sophia stamp since she goes so well with anything floral, and this favorite patterned paper of mine by SEI. I used GinaK's pure Luxury 120 pound paper for the base along wtih Tempting Turquoise and Pixie Pink for my colors. I colored Sohpia with my watercolor wonder crayons and aquapainter, then added some sparkle with my Spica Glitter pens. See that sparkle??I also stamped the inside of the card - and used the butterfly image from Rainy Day Friends since it matches so well...I even doodled the flight path! This card is going to Cards for a Cause, so I hope they'll like it.I hope you all have a wonderful day today...and I wish for you freedom to accomplish what you'd like, since I don't have much of that myself lately! (hmmm...maybe writing these posts at night after a long day isn't such a good idea!)

Ok...I feel like I need to include a cute photo of Jack I took earlier - if for no other reason than to show that he really is an adorable sweet little thing (all 15 pounds 14 ounces of him!)...and I'm just getting a little too tired!
